Are you ready to start exploring the world of microorganisms and see the humongous biodiversity of the world from a first row seat? Register now for our event through the link below (Ticketshop)! Upon arrival we will show you how to use Foldscope microscopes in a fun way. We will guide you into the world of microorganisms with the help of experts in the field of microbiology. To make this experience even more special, we organise the event on the same day and in the same city where Antoni van Leeuwenhoek invented the first microscope. This day, the 7th of September, has gone down in history as the day that we entered the world of microorganisms for the first time, right here in Delft.
The Foldscope is an ultra-affordable origami-based microscope made from cheap materials such as paper. The purpose of these affordable and easy-to-use microscopes is to bridge the gap between people and their curiosity about science. The microscope is capable of magnifying objects up to 140 times, which is good enough to distinguish certain bacterial species from each other. On top of that it is also compatible with your smartphone, which allows you to easily share your new discoveries with the world.
The money obtained from the tickets and donations together will be used to get schools in India in touch with science by providing them with at least 200 Foldscopes!
The event will take place in the Science Centre of Delft University of Technology on Saturday the 7th of September from 13:00 till 16:30.
During the event, students and special speakers will guide you through the world of microorganisms and show some of the amazing properties these little creatures have. You will witness this new world through your own Foldscope! As a participant in our event, you will get a goodie-bag with your own Foldscope, which you can use for the rest of your life!
